Adelaide U. Shugart passed away 3/11/24 into the arms of our Lord with family by her side at her home in Watsonville. She was able to celebrate her 100th birthday on 2/23/24 with friends and family.
Adelaide was born in Watsonville to her parents James and Katherine Switzer.
She is survived by her sons Calvin (Ruth) and Mark (Lynn) Shugart. Her four grandchildren: Joe Owens, Claire Shugart, Grant Shugart, Paige Shugart and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Maybern Shugart, brothers Sam, Cliff, Glen McMurry, Dan and Dick Switzer and sister Barbara Danbom.
Adelaide leaves behind a legacy of wisdom, love and purpose.
Adelaide went to Monte Vista Christian School then to San Jose State to later teach at Monte Vista Christian.
Adelaide and Maybern founded Monument Lumber in 1952 and the family continues to keep the popular lumberyard open 72 years later.
Adelaide enjoyed making pies and jams from the fruit trees she grew in her orchard and enjoyed working in her garden, reading and visiting her friends.
She had deep faith, love of our Lord and was loyal to her church Green Valley Church.
Graveside services will be held on 3/23/24 at 1:00 p.m. at the Pajaro Valley Memorial Park on Hecker Pass Rd.
Donations in her memory can be made to Green Valley Church, Pajaro Rescue Mission and Hospice of Santa Cruz County.
