Alfred B. Gonzales passed away peacefully at home in Watsonville, Ca on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at the age of 97.
He was a loving and caring man who was deeply devoted to his family. He was the proud son of parents Maura and Filiberto Gonzales from Zacatecas, Mexico, and was born in Chicago, Illinois. Known for his kind heart and strong work ethic, he lived a full and active life, always finding joy in the simple things. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps and was a Korean War veteran, serving from 1952 to 1954. He carried that same sense of dedication and strength throughout his life. He was also honored to be the godfather of Ralph Razo, Jr., who passed away on June 20, 2012, from ALS. More than anything, he will be remembered for being a loving, selfless, and caring man who touched many lives.
After completing his early education he went on to build a strong and hardworking career. He spent much of his life working in agriculture, including apple orchards and strawberry fields, where he served as a respected supervisor. He was known for his leadership, dedication, and commitment to his work. One of his greatest accomplishments was his honorable service in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War.
Alfred enjoyed staying active and spending time outdoors. He loved fishing and hunting, and also enjoyed cooking, walking, and gardening. These simple pleasures brought him great joy throughout his life.
After retiring, Alfred continued to give back to his community through volunteer work. He generously dedicated his time to the Senior Center, Second Harvest Food Bank, and the YWCA, along with other community efforts. He was passionate about helping others and making a difference.
Alfred is remembered by his siblings Alcardio and Rafael Gonzales, and children Alfred Gonzales, Rosie Gonzales, Carmen Baeta, Jessica Gonzales, Ramona Flores, Metia Gonzales, and Paula Gonzales. He also leaves behind his many beloved grandchildren: Sandi Beltran, Jacky Gonzalez, Johnny Hurtado, Salina Gonzales, Sabrina Perreira, Michael Perreira, Melissa Perreria, Rachel Jacinto, Stephen Baeta, Gabriel Baeta, Adriana Baeta, Veronica Morales, Tony Morales, Amber Morales, Jaslene Gonzales, Adriana Bernabe, Guadalupe, Francisco, and Ricardo Gonzales; and Peter Gil, James Smith, Joseph Smith, and Miranda Durham.
