Betty Jean Convisser (Huntley)

June 11, 1923 — July 1, 2025

Freedom, CA

Betty Jean Convisser (Huntley), born in Indianapolis, Indiana on June 11, 1923, passed peacefully in her home on July 1, 2025, in Freedom, California. Beloved by family and friends, she was known for her sharp wit and kindness. She adored her parents and brother and the family outings, watching baseball games in the summer evenings and taking road trips. Betty was proud of her service during World War II as a storekeeper in the WAVES, U.S. Naval Reserve. A 9th generation American, Betty was from a family of military servicemen dating back to the civil war. She studied education at the University of Denver and became a K-12 teacher. She had fond memories of teaching in Germany before her graduate studies, and touring Europe on weekends and holidays. When she moved to California, the love of her life Stanley Convisser moved to be near her. Divorced before his passing, they were married in 1963. Before retirement she worked in the County Social Services department. She was an artist and avid reader who enjoyed fashion, interior design, sightseeing, and long walks. In her later years she loved spending time on the porch and around the kitchen table in conversation. Betty is survived by her daughter Cynthia, her grandson Ryan, and her brother Richard Huntley and sister Susan Ragland and their families. Betty lived in Santa Cruz County for 56 years and delighted in caring for her grandson, Ryan, as he grew up. She also helped care for two of her beloved nephews Zachariah and Joshua when they were young.

Services will be held at the California Central Coast Veterans Cemetery in Seaside, on August 11, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. where Betty’s remains will be laid to rest with the Naval Honor Guard presiding.
