Carla Schaper Reans was born May 23, 1929 and entered into the arms of her loving savior Jesus Christ on November 30, 2025 at the age of 96.
Carla was the daughter of German immigrants Friedrich and Hertha Schaper, she was a lifelong resident of Watsonville. As a youth she was a member of the 4-H club and Rainbow girls. Carla graduated from Watsonville High school in 1947 later attending Heald Business College in San Jose. Carla’s bookkeeping career began early in life growing up on an egg ranch where her mother taught her to count the eggs and account for the money. Carla worked at a local bank and real estate office where she honed her accounting skills. Carla retired from the Sunny Mesa water district after a twenty year career as their bookkeeper.
Carla was a faithful and active member of the Arther Road Baptist Church for over 60 years. During her tenure at the church she served as a Sunday school teacher, choir director, women’s missionary director, trustee and church treasurer for over 50 years. In her 80’s and 90’s Carla was a volunteer at Watsonville Community Hospital running the cash register in the cafeteria. Carla was always willing to lend a hand to those in need.
Carla enjoyed crocheting, reading, singing, baking cookies and doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles.
Carla is survived by her nephews Randy O’Bar, Danny O’Bar, Mike Reans and her niece Marilyn Pang. She was predeceased by her parents, brother Helmuth Schaper, husband of 43 years James J. Reans and husband Paul Tibbs, nephews David O’Bar, Mark O’Bar and niece Martha O’Neal.
The family would like to say a special thank you to Emma Valencia who was like an angel to Carla. Every day for the last several years Emma came over and prepared Carla’s breakfast, grocery shopped and checked on her throughout the day!
Funeral arrangements will be handled by Ave Maria Memorial Chapel 609 Main St in Watsonville. Viewing will be Tuesday December 9th from 5pm to 9pm at Ave Maria Memorial Chapel with a graveside service on December 10th at 1pm at Pajaro Valley Memorial Park.
