Donald Eugene Underwood

Donald Eugene Underwood passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family on September 27, 2023. He was born to proud parents Oralee Underwood Hensley and James Amyx on January 1st, 1934, in Knoxville, Tennessee where he was raised.  He had been a resident of California for the last 50 years of his life.

Mr. Underwood was a musician (Saxophone, trumpet, guitar), harp-builder and artist, among other many talents. He was an electrical engineer as well as the inventor/creator of Underwood Bass Pickup for Upright Bass which is still the most popular bridge mounted bass pickup.

He is survived by his loving wife Serena Cabral Underwood, his children Belinda Underwood, Melissa Underwood, Laura Underwood, Teresa Underwood, Monica Jackson, 13 grandchildren, and his brother Pete Hensley.  He was preceded in death by his son James Underwood and sister Mary Carlton.

A Memorial Mass will be held at a later date.
