Emelia Caballero de Barrios

Emelia Caballero de Barrios passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Friday, April 10, 2026, in Watsonville, CA.

She was born in Michoacan, Mexico, on December 2, 1946, along with her three brothers and four sisters, to parents Maria Bautista de Caballero and Francisco Caballero.

Emelia was a hardworking woman and loving mother, who spent most of her adult life working in the Strawberry fields. She liked to work with her hands and in her free time often enjoyed hobbies like knitting, cooking, and gardening, though she made time for her other love of shopping, too. But above all, she enjoyed spending time with friends and family the most.

Emelia is preceded in death by her husband Jose Barrios and son Ossel Barrios. She is survived by her children Zulema Caballero, and Gilberto Barrios (Cathy), and her beloved 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

A viewing will be held for Emelia at Ave Maria Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., with a Rosary at 7 p.m. A Funeral Mass will take place the next morning at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church on April 29, 2026, at 10 a.m., followed by a burial at Pajaro Valley Memorial Park.
