Federico Castaneda left this world unexpectedly on July 1, 2020. He was 54. Federico was born on May 28, 1966 in San Luis Rio Colorado, Mexico. As a young boy, his family migrated to Watsonville where he attended Pajaro Middle School and Watsonville High School.
Federico enjoyed playing soccer. He played for Watsonville High School for all four years. He loved watching football and he was a true 49ers fan. He loved sharing the love of the sport with his son Eric. To relax, he played golf with his Mandilones friends at local golf courses.
He attended Hartnell community college and San Jose State University where he earned degrees in Bilingual Education and a Masters in Counseling Education.
Federico loved working at Watsonville High School as a guidance counselor and guiding students to follow their dreams. He was an adviser for the MATA club where students had the opportunity to organize cultural relevant events for the benefit of the community.
Every summer, he worked for the Migrant Education Program supporting students complete high school credits through a number of educational programs. He was a true mentor for thousands of kids throughout his 29 years working as an educator.
He is survived by his two children, Eric and Yasmin Castaneda. He is also survived by his twelve nephews and nieces and his four younger sisters; Rosa, Leticia, Carmen, and Lupita.
He was preceded in death by his parents Rosario and Ofelia Castaneda.
Visitation services will be held on Thursday, July 16, 2020 3:00PM - 8:00PM at Ave Maria Memorial Chapel, 609 Main St., Watsonville. A burial service will take place at Valley Public Cemetery on Friday, July 17, 2020 at around 11:00AM.
