Flora Rocha Castillo was born on Saturday, March 11, 1944, and passed away on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at Dominican Hospital in Santa Cruz at the age of 81. Native of Gómez Farias, Michoacán, Mexico, Flora lived in Watsonville for 50 years. Flora was always a strong, family-oriented, and hardworking woman. Besides being a mother and taking care of the house, Flora worked in agriculture for more than 50 years. After retiring, Flora dedicated herself to the church and spending time with her family. Her new routine was attending mass every Sunday and participating in church events and retreats. One of her joys was inviting her entire family to Mass and religious retreats. Another of her joys was singing and watching live music. At any opportunity or spontaneously, Flora would start singing for her family. It was truly a joy to see and hear her sing so happily. Flora also loved going out and visiting many places, so she never said no to a going out invitation. Something notable and beautiful about Flora was that purple was always her favorite color, as it represented beauty and happiness to her. Another notable thing about Flora, even though she loved all her children, was that her youngest son—Juan, or "Mi Teso" as she called him—was always her great miracle and treasure. A highly desired achievement for Flora was becoming a U.S. citizen, which she accomplished on September 18, 2006. This achievement was a great source of pride for her.
She was preceded in death by: Husband Aurelio Castillo Ortiz; Son Rogelio Castillo Rocha; grandchildren Jesús and Ángel; siblings Emilia, María Guadalupe, and Rafael Rocha Castillo. She is survived by her children (6): Aurelio, Leticia, Rafael, Lupe, David, and Juan Castillo Rocha; Grandchildren (20): Alvaro, Alma, Mayra, Aurelio, Luis, Marissa, Rafael, Luz María, Daisy, Alejandro, Jessica, Julián, Jocelyn, David, Julyssa, Alexis, Brian, Iván J., Juan, and Santiago; Great-grandchildren (11): Marlene, Camila, Mateo, Andy, Iván I., Isabella, Melissa, Alejandro, Matthew, Lucy, and Lexi; and siblings (8): Soledad, Elena, Rodolfo, Ricardo, Rogelio, Adela, Rafael, and María del Carmen Rocha Castillo.
The viewing and rosary will be on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Ave María Memorial Chapel. The rosary will begin at 7:00 p.m. Private time for the immediate family will be from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The mass and burial will be on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at 10:00 am at Our Lady Mary Help of Christians Church.
