Janice Van Benthuysen

Janice Van Benthuysen passed away peacefully at home in Royal Oaks, California, on July 29, 2026.

Janice was born on November 2, 1950, to parents Walter D. Van Benthuysen and Gladys Steketee Van Benthuysen.

She is remembered by those who love her for her confidence and adventurous spirit. Her career as an American Airlines flight attendant brought her fulfillment and lifelong friendships, and in her free time she enjoyed pushing herself to greatness as an award-winning body builder and avid barrel horse racer. Janice loved to travel and especially enjoyed her road trips to Arizona with her husband Alvie and their beloved labrador retrievers Louie and Maxx.

Janice is preceded in death by her parents Walter and Gladys, and her brother James Van Benthuysen. She is survived by her devoted husband Alvie Hurray, her children, Cristina M. Sayers and Philip B. Baziuk, and her brother Walter Van Benthuysen. Janice also leaves behind her grandchildren, Jessica Avila-Miller, Addison, Harlow, and Keone Sayers, Jacob Brooke, and Kylie Baziuk, and her great-grandchildren, Hazel Avila, Thurston and Tuhllah Miller.

A funeral service will be held for Janice on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at Apostles Lutheran Church located at 5828 Santa Teresa Blvd. San Jose, Ca, 95123 at 12pm. A burial is set to follow at Los Gatos Memorial Park at 2255 Almaden Rd. San Jose, Ca 95124.
