Jesus Garcia Nevarez

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Watsonville resident Jesus Garcia Nevarez on July 4, 2025.

Jesus was born in Tepehuanes Durango, Mexico on May 16, 1941, to parents Josefa Garcia and Manuel Nevarez.

He immigrated to California in 1959, met his future wife Rachel at a dance and they were later married on November 12, 1967. He worked various jobs throughout his life, as an agricultural worker picking lettuce, apples, and berries, as a laborer for Spreckels Sugar Factory and lastly for the Naval Postgraduate School. He and Rachel loved to travel together and explored Europe, the Mexican Riviera and the Panama Canal. Jesus enjoyed taking trips to Chukchansi and watching competitive sports including soccer, boxing, and wrestling. His favorite pastimes consisted of maintaining his garden and taking care of all his animals.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Rachel and siblings Margarita, Nieves, and Juan. Jesus is survived by his children Mary, Jesse, Lorena, and Erika, and his siblings Jose, Maria, Susana, and Catarina. He also leaves behind his grandchildren Alex, Dominique, Angelique, Antoinette, Aaron, Julian, Aubrey, Noah, and Alina, who will miss him dearly.

A viewing will be held for Jesus on Sunday, July 20, 2025, at 5PM with a Rosary at 7PM at Ave Maria Memorial Chapel. The following Monday, July 21, 2025, a Funeral Mass will be held at 11AM at Our Lady Help of Christians Church, followed by a burial at Valley Public Cemetery.
