Obituary

John “PaPa” Sanchez, 86, of Hollister, California, passed away on May 28, 2026. He was born on October 20, 1939, and lived a life deeply rooted in family and love.

John worked as a mechanic at a gas station in his early years, and later went on to spend more than thirty years working for Carl Dobler and Sons, where he built a lasting career.

He had a passion for fishing , gardening and had a special fondness for his animals Hefe and Trouble.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Simon and Estella Sanchez, his brother Lupe, and his sisters Julia, May, and Mary.

John is survived by his children and their spouses: John and Rosie Sanchez, Marie and Brian Emerson, and Anthony Sanchez; and the mothers of his children, Lillian Sanchez and Rachel Pignone. He is also survived by his siblings and their spouses: Jessie and George Ruiz, Helen and David Robles, Lazaro and Alice Sanchez, and Lucy and Tony Antuna. And many Nieces and Nephews.

He leaves behind his grandchildren: Alejandro Barrera, Rigo and Clarissa Retamoza, and John III and Maddox Sanchez; and his great-grandchildren: Matia and Ciena Barrera, Mili, Raja, and Luciano Retamoza, and Khalani and Jack Sanchez.

PaPa will be remembered and cherished by all the family he leaves behind, who take comfort knowing he has rejoined those who went before him.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Ave Maria Memorial Chapel, 609 Main Street, Watsonville, California. A gathering to celebrate his life will follow from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Jalisco’s Restaurant, located across the street, where a light meal will be shared among family and friends.
