Leroy Lawson Meyers

Leroy Lawson Meyers, a devoted father, loving family man, and true free spirit, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2026, in Soquel, California, at the age of 91. He was surrounded by the love of his daughters during his final days.

Born February 20, 1935, in Turlock, California, to Merle Wesley Meyers and Ermine Elizabeth Lawson, Leroy grew up alongside his siblings, Merle Wesley Meyers Jr. and Sidney Marilyn Meyers. During his childhood and youth, his family lived throughout California, including Turlock, Dos Palos, North Hollywood, Redding, and Weed. A proud 1953 graduate of Shasta High School in Redding, Leroy developed an independent and adventurous outlook on life that stayed with him always.

On August 22, 1956, Leroy married the love of his life, Nancy Lou Middleton. Together, they shared an enduring and beautiful union of 68 years. Early in their marriage, they lived briefly in Mount Shasta and Citrus Heights before settling in Santa Cruz in 1966 to raise their family. Leroy built a career in the grocery business, working in several stores as well as briefly owning and operating Boulder Creek Produce in 1978.

Retiring at age 50, Leroy and Nancy embarked on their next chapter two years later, moving to Yreka to help care for Nancy’s parents. Leroy was a man of quiet strength, deep generosity, and unmatched humility. A patriot at heart who marched to the beat of his own drum, he possessed an innate empathy for those less fortunate.

Leroy had a lifelong connection with nature and mechanics. Every year, he enjoyed tending to a bountiful vegetable garden. He found immense joy in motorcycle rides, tinkering with mini bikes, fishing quiet waters, watching classic cinema, and spending time with his cherished pets, holding a special fondness for dogs.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nancy, and his son, Alan Roy Meyers.

He is survived by his three loving daughters: LeAnn Ruth Rudolph and her husband Gary, Mary Lou Savoni and her husband Rick, and Susan Marie Giardina and her husband Joe; along with extended family and lifelong friends who will forever hold his memory close.

Memorial & Gratitude

At a future date, Leroy’s ashes, along with those of his wife, Nancy, and his faithful dog Lucy, will be scattered on Humbug Mountain in Yreka, reuniting with his son Alan, whose ashes were laid to rest there in September 2024.

The family extends their deepest heartfelt gratitude to the wonderful team at Hospice of Santa Cruz County, with special thanks to Cambria for her exceptional care and compassion, as well as to the caring staff at Ave Maria Memorial Chapel.
