Oralia “Lala” Nieto (Lopez) passed away on December 31, 2023.
Lala was born on November 15, 1934 in Sonora Mexico to Francisco Lopez and Maria Lopez (Leal). She met and married her husband Adrian Nieto Sr. in Los Angeles and soon after welcomed their only son Adrian Jr. In 1975 the family moved to the Watsonville area. For over two decades after arriving in Watsonville, she was a cannery worker for Richard A. Shaw, later Dean Foods. During her time in the cannery, along with many others participated in the Watsonville cannery strikes, a pivotal time period in Watsonville history. To all who knew her, Lala was friendly, caring and had a generous spirit. She prided herself on having provided friends and extended family a home as they worked to establish themselves in the community.
She was preceded in death by her parents, multiple siblings and her husband and leaves behind her loving son, Adrian Nieto Jr (Nubia Padilla) and her two beloved grandchildren, her sister and best friend, Blanca “Chata” Trevino of Los Banos and brother Uriel Lopez of Sonora, Mexico along with numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 31, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Ave Maria Memorial Chapel. Mass will be held on Thursday, February 1, 2024 at 10:00 AM with the burial to follow after at Pajaro Valley Memorial Park.
Her family wishes to thank Pacific Coast Manor of Capitola for her care during the last years of her life.
