Orlando G. Axie

Orlando fought a brave battle against lung/throat cancer for 6 yrs. He chose to participate in at least 4 studies at Stanford. Passing at the age of 71 he was a devoted husband, loving father, and brother, proud grandfather, and cherished friend whose kindness and strength touched everyone who knew him.

Orlando was born in Brawley, CA and then moved to the Tri-County area where his parents started an apple business.

Graduating from Watsonville High School in 1973 and then joined the Army. His

service included two months in Germany, and he was honorably discharged as corporal in 1977. He was decorated with a Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and a Sharpshooter Medal.

He built a 50-year career in the Aerospace industry at United Technology and other companies adjacent to Silicon Valley. Through his work he met astronauts riding the Titan and Challenger missiles which he helped build. He retired in 2019 and returned to his family home in Watsonville.

One of Orlando’s hobbies included building and launching model rockets and airplanes. He liked to take his friends/kids to launch rockets. He was involved in his kids’ sports and dance recitals. He was interesting and fun to talk to.

Survived by his beloved wife Lindylou Axie of San Jose, brother Steven Axie, sisters Sandra Tooley and Michelle Axie (all residents of Watsonville). Children: Kimberly Ann Axie-Ramos of Aromas CA, Brittany Rochelle Axie of Newman CA, and Brian Orlando Axie of Watsonville. Cherished grandchildren in Gustine CA, Ryan, Luke, Zack, and Mason of Aromas CA.

His last Father’s Day, he was surrounded by his wife, children, family and friends. He was deeply loved and will be dearly missed. His memory will live on in us and in the hearts he touched.
