Orpha Doty

January 17, 1920 — September 1, 2018

Orpha Elizabeth Doty passed away September 1, 2018 at Montecito Manor in Watsonville, CA. She was 98.

Orpha was born in Lynden, Ontario, Canada, and moved to Santa Barbara at the age of three with her parents Lillian Claire and Clarence Kivell. She loved Goleta and Santa Barbara, her home for over 80 years. She attended Roosevelt Grammar School, La Cumbre Junior High, and graduated from Santa Barbara High School in 1938.

Orpha was a member of Phi Epsilon Phi Sorority for years, and an active 4-H leader for ten years. She was a member of the Goleta Valley Historical Society, the Harmony Dance Club, and her “sewing club” (no sewing, just fun and friendship) since 1939.

Although she has left her devoted family and friends, her enthusiasm for life and her sense of humor continue  to survive and influence those fortunate enough to have shared their life with her. She was always ready and willing to help family, friends and neighbors.

She leaves her daughter Donna Doty Lane (Larry Lane), her grandson Marty (Caryn), and her great granddaughter Emma Lane all of Aptos, CA. She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Martin Doty, her brother Raymond Kivell, a stepsister Betty Boyce, three stepbrothers: Leroy, Max, and Bob Ewing as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Orpha will be laid to rest in the Santa Barbara Cemetery. Honoring her wishes there will be no services.

Those who wish, may make contributions to Hospice of Santa Cruz County, 940 Disc Drive, Scotts Valley, CA 95066.

Arrangements have been entrusted in the care of the Carroll Family of Ave Maria Memorial Chapel, www.avemariamemorialchapel.com
