Raúl Galaviz Cazarez

Raúl Galaviz Cazares, a beloved member of the Watsonville community and a proud native of Tampico, México, passed away peacefully on November 17, 2025, at the age of 80.

Born on September 24, 1945, to Cerna Cazarez and Raúl Galaviz, Raúl moved to Watsonville as a young man and spent most of his life here, building a warm circle of friends and chosen family. He was preceded in life by his parents and is lovingly remembered by his sister, Rosa Galaviz.

Raúl had a lively spirit and a gift for bringing joy wherever he went. He became a U.S. citizen and worked many years as a CNA before retiring. He loved dancing, traveling with friends, and surrounding himself with the beauty he found in fine jewelry and designer clothes. Those who knew him will remember his impeccable style, his generous heart, and the sparkle in his eye whenever music began to play.

He cherished the friendships and community he found at Independence Square. Raúl is survived by his Aunt María Quiroz, cousin Sandra Quiroz, and many other Quiroz cousins who will forever hold him close in their hearts.

A memorial gathering will be held at Ave Maria from 3:00–9:00 p.m., where friends and family are invited to share stories, memories, and celebrate Raúl’s remarkable life. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, December 11th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church in Watsonville.

Raúl will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for his warmth, elegance, and the light he brought to every room. May he rest in peace.
