Celebrating the Vibrant Life of Raymond Fuentes

Raymond Fuentes was a devoted father, a talented gardener, and a lifelong jokester. He passed away peacefully at his home in Aromas, California, on May 26, 2026, at the age of 64. After facing a courageous battle with cancer since 2024, Raymond spent his final days surrounded by family in the comfort of his favorite place—his home. He faced his illness just as he lived his life, with immense strength and an unshakeable spirit.

Raymond was born on December 1, 1961. Raised in Watsonville, he was one of nine siblings. He loved spending time with his family and collecting new friends wherever he went. Raymond spent his youth cruising the streets in classic cars, enjoying family barbecues, and attending sporting events—making vibrant memories he would cherish and reminisce about for years to come.

Whether he was driving in his car or relaxing at home, Motown oldies were the soundtrack to his life. The soulful songs of The Temptations, The Four Tops, The Drifters, Sam Cooke, and Jim Croce brought him immense comfort and joy until his final breath.

Music shaped Ray’s destiny in beautiful and unexpected ways. Years before they officially met, he and his future wife, Kathryn, sat just five rows apart at the same concert, entirely unaware of each other. Fate clearly had greater plans for them than to just pass by. Years later, when Ray’s sister Sarah introduced them, their true love story began. They always marveled at that early, near-miss encounter, and music remained a timeless theme throughout their life together. In October 1992, they married and began their journey as Raymond and Kathryn Fuentes. They welcomed their daughter, Jessica, in May 1993, and in 1995, they bought their forever home in Aromas, California. In that home, they spent more than 30 years building beautiful memories filled with music, laughter, and entertainment.

Ray’s love for music was matched only by his passion for nature. He loved all creatures, plants and animals alike; he could never hurt a fly, but he would gladly pull up a weed if it meant a flower could bloom. Turning this passion into a fulfilling career, he poured his heart into making gardens beautiful for clients, neighbors, and family. No matter whose yard he was working on, he always had music by his side and beamed with pride whenever someone appreciated his work.

At his core, Raymond was a shy, gentle homebody and a kid at heart. He loved a good drink, a familiar show, and keeping life simple with his family. Though he carried the weight of hardships from his youth, he pushed forward with remarkable resilience, choosing to focus on the good rather than dwell on the past. Raymond felt things deeply, but his ultimate mission was to protect the joy of his wife and daughter. Even in heavy times, he was always ready with a sharp one-liner or a mischievous joke to break up the sadness.

When he wasn’t working, you could find him watching sports, playing pool with Kathy and Jess, or crafting intricate wooden puzzles and model cars. His creative woodworking projects will be cherished forever by those who loved him. While he was a die-hard Raiders fan and loved any sport on TV, the only games he took truly seriously were his daughter’s. As her absolute biggest fan, he rarely ever missed a soccer or volleyball game.

Raymond is now reunited with his beloved wife, Kathryn, who passed away on December 17, 2021. He is also preceded in death by his father, Henry; his mother, Emilia; and his brother, David.

His vibrant legacy and love for life are carried on by his daughter, Jessica Thomas, and his devoted siblings: Jesse Velasquez, Daniel Fuentes, Sarah Lopez, Mary Nunes, Henrietta Cardozo, Sally Fernandez, and Beatrice Vasquez. He also leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, cousins, and lifelong friends who will forever miss his laughter, his mischievous spark, and his beautiful heart.
