On January 9, 2021, Rufina Zambrano Tehandon peacefully passed away. She was 85.
Rufina, born on July 10, 1935, was a resident of Watsonville. She loved making quilts and spending time with her family and her grandchildren. She also loved going to flea markets, dancing, and listening to music.
Rufina and her dear husband Santiago Estrada Tehandon passed away two weeks apart from one another; she on January 9 of 2021 and he on December 25 of 2020.
She is preceded in death by her parents Maria Rangel and Antonio Zambrano, and by her daughter Estella Ibarra. She is also preceded in death by her siblings, Lorenza Seballos, Yolanda Lopez, Benito Guermocindo, Jesus Zambrano, and Josephina Zambrano.
Rufina is survived by her three children, Sylvia Castaneda, Francisco Tehandon, and Juan Castaneda. She is also survived by eight of her siblings, Fidela Garcia, Antonio Zambrano, Juan Zambrano, Maria Serna, Patricio Zambrano, Enrique Zambrano, Jose Zambrano, and Velia Montes; along with her seven grandchildren Donna Carranza, Veila Zambrano, Estella Ibarra, Godeleva Quintero, Alexander Cabrera, Francisco Lopez, and Jose Lopez.
A visitation service for Rufina’s family and friends will be held on Sunday, January 24th from 5:00-9:00pm at Ave Maria Memorial Chapel in Watsonville. A funeral mass will be celebrated at Valley Catholic Church at 10:00AM.
