Suzanne Theriot-Large passed away at age 82 on July 20, 2026, at Dominican Hospital in Santa Cruz, California. She was born January 31, 1944, in Los Angeles, the third of nine children of Fred J. Theriot and Leanore (Lane) Theriot Hooper. In 1958, Suzanne moved with her family to an apple ranch in Aptos.

In May 1960 Suzanne was attacked by a great white shark while on a beach excursion with her sophomore class from Mora Central High School. The resulting amputation of her leg was reported in newspapers internationally. Her photo was even featured in Life magazine with a short article.

Graduation from Watsonville High School in 1962 was followed by further education at Armstrong Business College in Berkeley, California. Suzanne was employed at an insurance company using her secretarial skills, and later in life, she worked as a Computer/Library Tech at Pacific Coast Charter School in Watsonville until her retirement.

Suzanne had a beautiful voice, and loved to sing. She performed in high school and Cabrillo College musicals as well as in some professional groups and many weddings.

Suzanne was married in 1966 to Roger Large, who died in 2000, and with him she has a daughter Mara and a son David, who both survive her. She also has two granddaughters.

Over the many years, Suzanne enjoyed living in her Aptos country home. She was well-loved by her extended family and will be sorely missed.

Arrangements are being made by Ave Maria Memorial, and services will be private.
