Edna (Dollie) Hollingsworth

September 11, 1921 — December 17, 2021

Edna (Dollie) Hollingsworth passed away at 100 ¼ years old surrounded by her daughters, Carlene (Dennis) Carter and Mary Ellin (Bill) Fannin and grandchildren. She was born to James and Mary Knowlton in Richmond, CA as their third daughter. Her two older sisters, Viola Mae Hertzberg and Mary Catherine Bloomer preceded her in death, as did two of her brothers, James Knowlton, Jr., and Robert Knowlton. She is survived by her youngest brother, Bill (Judy) Knowlton of Watsonville.

Dollie was a graduate of Oakland Tech High School and then majored in merchandising at Lick, Wilmerding, Lux junior college where she was a member of the Hula Club. She was married to Carl G. Anderson during WWII and thereafter sailed from Seattle aboard the Alaska Steamship “North Sea” to Petersburg, Alaska where her two daughters were born. She had numerous and varied jobs throughout her life from cashier, cook on fishing tender, saleswoman for Watkins Products, sales clerk at the Princess Apparel shop in Watsonville and finally retired after 25 years as Senior Branch Clerk for VanGas Propane Company.

After her retirement, she and her second husband of 30 years, Andrew Farrell Hollingsworth, enjoyed riding their horses and also traveling in their 5th wheel to visit family and long time friends in states and territories throughout the Pacific Northwest. Dollie also kept the property mowed on her riding mower throughout her 80’s but did finally surrender her drivers’ license at 90. As a member of the Rolling Hills Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Dollie thoroughly enjoyed volunteering her time to share her love of the Bible and its hope for the future with others in the community.

In addition to her two daughters, her brother and their spouses, Dollie is survived by three grandchildren: Ben (Sarah) Fannin, Kelsey (Roland) Schipper, and Selby (Heath) Kyle; 5 great grandchildren: Hallie, Tyke, Maddie, Harlowe, & Mack; and numerous nieces and nephews. Both of her husbands preceded her in death, as did her parents.

Ave Maria Memorial Chapel in Watsonville is handling arrangements. Contact family members for memorial information to be held in early January 2022.
