Rigoberto Medrano Prieto, a beloved family member and longtime resident of Watsonville passed away suddenly on Saturday, October 31, 2020. Born on November 6, 1961 in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico to Maria Luisa Prieto and Epigmenio Medrano. He moved to California when he was 14 years old, but still traveled to his home town of Las Animas, Zacatecas, Mexico. He was a dedicated worker and worked most of his life in the flower industry. Rigo was the cool uncle, with a contagious laugh, was the life of the party, and everyone’s good friend. He was a generous soul, kind hearted, and lived his life to the fullest. Words cannot express our heartfelt sorrow at losing such a wonderful man who inspired a love for low riders and oldies songs. He was an avid Raiders fan and wore his Raider gear with pride.
Rigo is preceded in death by his beloved brother Abel Medrano, his parents, and by his daughter Nancy Medrano.
He is survived by his wife Rosa Ramirez Rodriguez; his siblings Serefina Ramirez, Delia Melendrez, Patrocinio Garcia, Juan Medrano, and Elodia Medrano; and many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
Visitation services will be held Sunday, November 8, 2020 at Ave Maria Memorial Chapel 5:00-9:00PM with a recitation of the Rosary at 7:00PM. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, November 9, 2020 at Valley Catholic Church at 10:00AM with the burial following directly after at Valley Public Cemetery in Watsonville.
